Coconut Matcha Latte: Kick your coffee out
This coconut matcha latte is super simple to make and a delicious alternative to your morning cup of coffee
A few weeks ago I was travelling back to Canada from Bali, about 35 hours of travel. I wanted to stay awake on the long haul flight so I could beat jet lag with minor difficulty so I got a triple shot latte.
Normally, a latte is enough to keep me awake but even with three shots of espresso I still fell asleep an hour later.
Fast forward to this past week when twice I fell asleep immediately after drinking a cup of coffee.
Obviously something needs to change.
So I’ve challenged myself to not drink coffee or lattes for a month.
The downfalls of coffee
There’s so much mixed research about coffee and if it’s healthy or not.
Personally I believe ‘everything in moderation’ is a good way to view your diet.
Having one cup of coffee is not going to hurt you. It’s when you creep towards 3 or more cups a day that you need to start questioning your actions.
The thing with coffee is that it’s addictive.
How many mornings do you wake up a moody but once you get that steaming cup of power, you’re a ray of sunshine?
If this describes you in the slightest then you’re probably addicted to coffee. Any time you have something in your diet because you’re addicted to it, or because it’s just a habit, then you need to question if it’s helping or hurting you.
Deep down I’m sure you know the answer to that question.
If you want to kick your coffee addiction then read on, beautiful…
Do this instead
When you’re trying to change any habit going cold turkey isn’t the best option. Yes, it works for some people but do you really want to put yourself through all the struggle?
Going cold turkey can lead to with drawl symptoms (hello, headaches) and uncontrolled binges.
Instead, you’re going to take a week reducing how much coffee you drink. If you usually drink four cups a day reduce it to three. Two days later cut it back to two cups. Then one cup. Then no cups of coffee!
Master your habit with this trick
When you want to change any habit you have to keep your routine and the reward you get from it.
So, if you drink coffee in the morning to wake up then replace it with matcha green tea or another tea with some caffeine. Make sure this swap is healthy. Don’t replace your coffee with Redbull.
If you get an afternoon cup with your work bestie then bring your own tea and have that with her instead. You’re not loosing your afternoon gossip sesh, you’re just making a healthier choice at the same time.
Replace your coffee with this Coconut Matcha Latte
This is the drink that I’ve replaced my morning coffee with and honestly, I haven’t struggled at all.
Matcha is made from the whole green tea leaf and ground up really fine. You ingest the whole leaf which gives you more of the antioxidant benefits of the tea. You also get more caffein than bagged green tea. But it’s still less than a cup of coffee.
