Drink More Water – 5 Ways To Get Enough
I’m always looking for ways to drink more water. If I’m not paying attention I can get to mid-afternoon and realize I haven’t had one glass of water yet. But you know I’ve had my coffee.
Does this sound like you too?
I know that you know you need to drink more water. It reduces bloating, improves digestion, keeps your skin healthy and helps to avoid headaches. So instead of giving you a lecture here are the ways that help me drink more water in a day.
Drink more water with these easy tips
Is the reason you don’t drink enough water because it’s boring?
Then let me introduce you to my new friend, infusions.
Infusions make water fun. You can create awesome flavour combos that make water sweet, spicy, earthy, tangy and pretty much any other flavour you can think of. It’s pretty simple to do too. All you need to do is add fruit, herbs or vegetables to your water a couple hours before you drink it.
Bonus tip: Get a large pitcher and infuse the water before you go to bed. In the morning you’ll have a whole days worth of flavourful water.
Here are more ways that I infuse my water.
Get A Large Water Bottle (but not too large)
Buy a water bottle that is large enough to get you through most of your day, but not so large it’s too heavy to carry around. Trust me on this, if this inconvenient in anyway you won’t do it.
32 ounces is a good size because you only have to refill it once to get a whole day of water.
Ease is one of the most important things when you’re making a change. Having a water bottle with you at all times is probably the easiest thing you can do.
Cup With A Straw On Your Desk
A simple change that had huge results for me was to keep a cup with a straw on my desk.
I started mindlessly sipping on water while I worked and easily downed more that enough water. Use your large water bottle to fill the cup or get a water bottle with a straw so you can simply keep track of what you’re drinking.
You know tea counts towards your daily water too, right?
There are so many different kinds of tea I know you’ll find something you love. Black and green tea are good in the morning or during an afternoon slump to pick you back up. Lavender and chamomile are great before bed. Hot or iced, there’s never a bad time to have tea.
One caution with caffeinated teas: because caffein is a diuretic only drinking caffeinated teas may counter act your water intake. It’s a small but significant decision to make.
Filter. It Tastes So Good!
Is the reason you don’t drink water because it tastes gross from your tap?
Well that’s not a good excuse because there are so many ways to change that.
Buy a water pitcher with a filter in it, add a filter to your tap or buy water jugs from the grocery store. There, no more lame excuses.
A Glass of Water When You Wake + Before Bed
This will totally change your water drinking game.
By starting and ending your day with water you’re giving yourself a signal to make good choices.
In the morning add a squirt of lemon juice and maybe some apple cider vinegar to give your metabolism and digestion a boost. But please do not drink cold water. Cold water slows down your metabolism and puts out your digestive fire.
I know the calorie counters say ice cold water is best because your body has to heat it up to digest it so it burns calories. I say this is bull shit. It’s so minuscule that it doesn’t matter and if you’re not digesting well it doesn’t matter how many calories your burn you’ll still be bloated and losing out on the nutrients from your food.
Using these tips to drink more water is one of the easiest and most effective things you can do for your health. No more excuses, babe!
